Couldn’t we have given them a break?
As you may have gathered from the latest edition of The Early Whistle’s podcast, Dan and the Greentalk, there’s something truly monumental going down in the crisps department right now.
The launch of The Hundred, the latest addition to the cricketing landscape, has catapulted the likes of Skips, McCoy’s, Tyrell’s and Hula Hoops to new heights (and, annoyingly, Pom Bears) – shirt sponsors in this brave new world, no less. Unfortunately, this is something entries in Snacks from the Dead can only dream of…
Sometime during the noughties, Snaps canned their awesome Cheese flavour, which also happened to be the best ever cheese crisps in history. This left us with what we have today: the nice-but-dim Tomato variety. But that was relatively easy to take because back in the 80s, Snaps committed their biggest crime by canning the brilliant Bacon.
Even the trademark dragon design on the purple packet was a match made in heaven. They lasted for such a short period, such a long time ago, that there’s only a handful of nerds that would appreciate a relaunch (stop looking at me), so we’ll probably be left to dream of how well they’d accompany a pint of lager – especially if you were too young to try them with a pint of lager at the time.
