It’s the Tiger’s finale but who else will earn their stripes at Cheltenham?

We’re all under starters orders for the 2022 Festival!

Thought the South-West was all about cider? Then think again, as it’s time to study the form, spend some pennies (but make sure it’s only a few) and get ready to watch some of the world’s greatest racehorses go head-to-head over four days. The 2022 Cheltenham Festival is raring to go, and out to prove yet again that England v Ireland isn’t all about the rugby… which is probably just as well.

Tuesday

There’s no end to the Cheltenham match-ups, but the one between top trainers Nicky Henderson and Willie Mullins is always a talking point. Constitution Hill and Dysart Dynamo are their respective fancies in the Supreme Novice’s Chase, but who’s going to get off to a flyer? And can Rachel Blackmore repeat last year’s success aboard Honeysuckle in the Champion Hurdle, now that the crowds are back?

Wednesday

One Grand National win could be considered a fluke by the cynics. Two back-to-back is just pure class, but it’s Cheltenham, not Aintree, that’s providing the swansong for one Tiger Roll. The Glenfarclas Chase will never have been so keenly watched, and puts everything else in the shade on day two.

Thursday

Traditionally the day for the purists, but there’s still value to be had for the part-timers. If you’re looking from a purely sporting perspective, however, Bob Olinger in the Turners Novice’s Chase and Allaho in the Ryanair Chase should grab your attention, and take their first steps on the long road towards equine immortality.

Friday

And so, to the grand finale. Today’s seven races ooze class, but it’s all about arguably the second-biggest event in the jumping calendar. The 2022 Gold Cup is usually billed as a two-horse shootout, and this time it’s A Plus Tard and Galvin that head the betting. However, rule out the likes of Al Boum Photo at your peril…
